Associate Director Corporate Strategy

Role Summary

The Associate Director, Corporate Strategy reports into Corporate Strategy Lead within CSDO team.  US CSDO oversees corporate and pipeline strategy, development (business development and alliance management) and operations (PMO office, business excellence and shared operations) among other responsibilities.

 

The Associate Director of US Corporate Strategy will contribute independently and as part of a team to prepare and deliver compelling executive presentations, lead cross functional efforts and support analyses for their recommendations (e.g., research, models, case studies) as needed.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

 

Strategic Planning Process Deliverables

  • Lead or help manage the Servier Pharmaceuticals strategic planning cycle which includes an annual business review and long-range plan, as well as facilitating functional plans and representing the US in key global strategic deliverables
  • Own and optimize the US strategic planning cycle, calendar, and project plan. Ensure alignment with global sequence: e.g., assess the right cadence of events, optimal alignment with forecasting and other functional milestones
  • Ensure deliverables are at the highest quality and synthesized appropriately for different audiences including for US and global senior management
  • Ensure alignment and transparency with global counterparts and incorporate pressure testing ahead of presentations

 

Strategic Planning Content Deliverables

  • Interpret business performance results in the context of strategy and cross-functional implications. Work with cross-functional partners to ensure presentations anticipate questions and include sensitivities, comparisons to prior forecasts, driver analysis, and connection to strategy/tactics
  • Engage internal subject matter experts based on knowledge of where gaps are and required information to develop content for strategic deliverables.
  • Manage on-time and connected forecasts and financial plans (consolidating inputs from finance, forecasting, and market access to assess the full portfolio, identify gaps, and work with the team to refine) as needed to support Inline committee
  • Pressure test functional plans by partnering US functional representatives to learn the business at hand and raise the bar by helping mitigate gaps or identify growth opportunities. May include external benchmarking to support the function or enterprise.

 

Shape and/or help execute strategy for priority cross-functional projects to maximize current portfolio

  • Lead and support CSDO team members in strategic projects that are typically cross-functional in nature and considered highest priority from the US Leadership Team.
  • Develop recommendations for key business questions by leveraging market, industry, competitive, and/or  internal data to generate insights, design and facilitate strategic workshops and meetings with key stakeholders, and develop comprehensive recommendations with supporting rationale.
  • Lead executive-level presentations distilling detailed and robust analysis into simple and digestible presentations

 

Support US leaders with strategic thought partnerships

  • Act as a neutral party at the center of the organization to pressure test topline and budget forecasts, ensuring that financials align to strategy
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, socialize, and follow through on execution
  • Generate opportunity assessments and business cases on key projects (e.g., ROI, NPV, breakeven, analyses)

 

 

  • Support corporate growth or growth efficiency projects
    • Identify, scope, and ideate on business transformation opportunities (e.g., changes to processes, governance, operating models, ways of working, technology/automation, etc.)

 

  • Support CSDO
    • Contribute to enable the success of CSDO team eg help connect the dots across the CSDO team, bring best practices to the team, occasionally organize a team building event to build shared experiences
    • Support identification of opportunities for improved team effectiveness and collaboration, being an active contributor to the collaborative and transparent team culture.

 

Skills and Education:

 

  • 7+ years of work experience in a professional capacity, ideally in a consulting role or similar strategic role in the life sciences industry
  • Undergraduate degree with business, science, quantitative focus, or relevant work experience; Graduate degree (MBA, PhD, or similar) strongly preferred
  • Experience in developing and delivering executive-level presentations/communications – clear, evidence based, synthesized with implications
  • Understanding of oncology or rare disease markets and stakeholder perspectives with a proven ability to quickly gain in-depth understanding of various disease states preferred
  • Strong organizational, managerial and leadership skills (including influence without formal authority)
  • Excellent social competencies, ability to work in highly matrixed organizations effectively
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering client presentations/communications; exceptional written and oral communication skills especially in story telling
  • Strong ability to establish a culture of excellence and motivating groups
  • Ability to work under pressure in fast paced environment and adaptability
  • Experience in developing interpersonal relationships, influencing, and gaining consensus across multiple functions (high EQ)
  • Professional and confident with an ability to work with all levels of the organization, especially senior level leaders.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with comfort preparing research and data analysis to support business recommendations

 

Education and Required Skills:

 

  • Undergraduate degree with business, science, or quantitative focus
    • Graduate degree (MBA, PhD, or similar) a plus
  • 8+ years of work experience in a professional capacity, ideally in strategy consulting and pharma  operations to be able to pressure test and synthesize the deliverables to senior management
    • Understanding of oncology or rare disease markets and stakeholder perspectives with a proven ability to quickly gain in-depth understanding of various disease states preferred

 

Other Relevant Information:

 

  • Boston-area; must be in the office in accordance with policy (2-3 days)
  • Travel ~10% of the time for meetings/workshops with Global (Paris), external conferences, and internal meetings/off-sites
