Head of Medical Therapeutic Area

Principal Accountability: The Head of Medical TA Group, Medical Affairs is responsible for leading the Medical therapeutic area team, developing the medical strategy/plan and operationalization of the medical activities as a key member of the Brand Team. He/she shall engage and build strong links with key external medical experts in the designated therapeutic field(s), through developing and maintaining an in-depth understanding of the therapy area and communicating and discussing both the depth of science behind Servier’s medicines and develop partnerships to facilitate the quality use of its medicines
Accountabilities
1. Lead, Manage and Build Teams
• As part of the Medical Affairs Leadership Team (MALT), proactively participate to ensure ongoing improvements in the medical organisation and processes.
• Responsible for leading and managing the team to ensure appropriate resource management and operationalisation of all planned medical activities as part of the medical strategy plan. He/she will also be responsible for budget management for the specific brands.
• Responsible for ensuring timely YDR assessments, talent development and succession planning are made to ensure best in class medical personnel.
• Responsible for Therapeutic Area Expert (TAE) Management and the implementation of TAE Plans
2. Strategy
• Responsible for working collaboratively and proactively with the TA cross-functional teams (local, regional and globally) to develop strategic medical, scientific and relationship management plans that align with business objectives
• Medical input into key cross-functional groups (including but not limited to): Marketing, Regulatory; ICTR, etc for successful development and life cycle management of products.
3. Interaction with Medical and Scientific Community
• Provide a high quality single point of contact for scientific interaction between external experts / HCP’s and Nihon Servier;
• Interact responsibly and within MA guidelines and/or relevant Country Codes, with targeted health care professionals, professional associations and other key stakeholders.
• Actively drive Scientific Advisory Board meetings to ensure knowledge transfer, foster TAE relationships, ensure scientific understanding to enhance the understanding of the disease, therapeutic area and treatment choices;
• Actively participate in Scientific and Medical symposia. Assist with development of Nihon Servier sponsored programs;
• Facilitate consideration of proposals for collaborative/ investigator initiated studies;
• Facilitate site feasibility assessments
• Responsible for publication planning and presentations of data at medical & scientific meetings.
• Appropriately understand the clinical gaps that would facilitate the development of new therapeutic agents/indications;
• Be a medical/scientific interface with key stakeholders in dealing with product related issues.
4. TAE Development
• Ensure development plans are initiated and actively managed for identified TAEs;
• Facilitate speaker development and involvement locally and internationally;
• Ensure appropriate TAE development through participation in clinical trials
• Ensure communications are tracked in appropriate systems to ensure Nihon Servier is compliant with good governance and transparency regulations
5. Therapy Area Expertise
• Develop and maintain extensive knowledge of the designated therapeutic area(s), pipeline and the competitive landscape;
• Be considered a field-based expert by internal & external customers; and
• Disseminate knowledge and share information as appropriate within compliance regulations, including through internal and external presentations;
• Facilitate training and education of relevant stakeholders.
• Lead and contribute to data gap/insights, and data generation activities
• Responsible to ensure the review and approval of promotional and scientific materials for the therapeutic area (as required).
Skills and Education:
• Qualifications in a relevant discipline such as medical, pharmacy, biotechnology, life science or paramedical practice. PhD in a relevant scientific field would be highly desirable.
• At least 5 years of appropriate experience with demonstrated relevant competencies required to qualify for this role.
