Role Summary

This is a pivotal moment to join our team! As the Senior Director of Patient Marketing, you will be at the forefront of a groundbreaking, first-in-class launch in the rare neurology landscape, specifically for Becker muscular dystrophy, a disease currently without therapeutic options and representing a monumental unmet patient need. Reporting to the VP Marketing, you will ignite our U.S. patient and caregiver engagement strategy, pioneering innovative, patient-centric campaigns that will fundamentally transform disease awareness, accelerate diagnosis, drive treatment initiation, and foster long-term engagement. Your leadership will ensure every initiative is deeply rooted in the needs of patients and caregivers, directly impacting lives and shaping the future of Becker muscular dystrophy care.

 

This role partners closely with Patient Advocacy, Patient Services, HCP Marketing, Digital Marketing, Medical Affairs, TLLs, Market Access, Commercial Operations, and Sales to deliver an integrated customer experience across the patient journey.

 

Primary Responsibilities

Patient Strategy

  • Architect and spearhead the overarching patient marketing vision, ensuring strategic alignment from pre-launch through mature lifecycle management
  • Direct the end-to-end development and execution of high-impact disease state awareness and branded patient campaigns that resonate with the rare disease community
  • Formulate and refine differentiated patient value propositions that articulate unique clinical and quality-of-life benefits to Becker patients and their families
  • Champion the end-to-end patient journey, identifying critical inflection points to optimize the overall patient experience and the care continuum

Patient Engagement

  • Orchestrate sophisticated omnichannel engagement strategies in collaboration with Digital Marketing, ensuring seamless caregiver and patient experiences across all digital touchpoints
  • Cultivate and scale patient ambassador initiatives, empowering authentic community voices to drive brand connection and peer-to-peer support
  • Oversee the creation of a robust ecosystem of patient-centric educational resources designed to simplify complex clinical concepts and empower informed decision-making

Advocacy Collaboration

  • Forge and maintain strategic alliances with key Patient Advocacy organizations to ensure enterprise alignment with the evolving needs of the community
  • Synthesize qualitative patient insights to serve as a foundational pillar for brand strategy and organizational decision-making
  • Drive community-focused educational initiatives that increase disease awareness and foster long-term trust within the advocacy landscape

Launch Leadership

  • Lead patient-focused launch readiness workstreams
  • Design and deploy innovative frameworks for patient activation and adherence, focusing on the unique challenges of Becker management
  • Utilize advanced patient segmentation and journey mapping to personalize engagement strategies and improve health outcomes
  • Proactively diagnose and mitigate systemic barriers to early diagnosis, patient engagement, and treatment initiation

Analytics & Insights

  • Establish and monitor rigorous Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the organizational impact and ROI of patient-facing initiatives
  • Drive the patient market research agenda in partnership with the Insights & Analytics team to uncover deep-seated unmet needs and market shifts

Financial & Agency Management

  • Manage Patient marketing budget within +/- 3% of approved plan
  • Ensure patient marketing investments generate measurable business outcomes and optimize ROI through data-driven decision making 

Job Description

Candidate Profile

Education and Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred
  • 12+ years pharmaceutical/biotech marketing experience
  • 7+ years patient or consumer marketing
  • Demonstrated success launching specialty or rare disease products
  • Rare disease and neurology experience strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of patient advocacy organizations and patient services
  • Demonstrated experience in developing disease awareness campaigns and patient education strategies
  • Proven agency and budget management experience
  • Strong understanding of promotional compliance
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills

 

Travel and Location

  • Approximately 20% travel
  • This is a remote role.  Occasional presence (1-2 times/quarter) in the Boston office required for workshops, key strategy meetings, etc.

Salary Range

The salary range for this role is $251-$307k. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. Employees in this position are also eligible for Short-Term and Long-Term incentive programs.
