Data Engineer

Main scope of the role:  To use relevant date sets to assist the organisations improve its sustainability and optimise its overall performance. The role sits in the Business Excellence Department and works closely with the senior analyst and other stakeholders to design, develop and implement systems and programs that use data and technology to support business strategic decision-making. You will use various tools and methods to collect, analyse and present data on various aspects of the business, such as market trends, customer needs, industry standards, operational efficiency, and organisational operation standards. You will also provide recommendations and solutions to address any opportunities and threats that you may identify.

 

This is a challenging and rewarding role that involves developing and implementing back end and front-end systems and programs using various computer languages and tools. The goal is to support the company in achieving business excellence, by providing data-driven insights and recommendations for strategy, market, industry, customer, and operational optimization.

 

Role Focus:

The Data Engineer will be responsible for data ingestion, transformation, dashboard creation, and tactical delivery of insights, analytics, and support to various business functions. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and business acumen to ensure the effective use of data in decision-making processes.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain ETL (Extract, Load, Transform) pipelines to bring data into Google Cloud, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards using Power BI and other data reporting systems to provide actionable insights.
  • Utilize Power BI and other tools to visualize data and support business functions with meaningful analytics.
  • Use SQL and relational database management systems for efficient data querying and management.
  • Apply familiarity with healthcare/pharma data and market dynamics to enhance data analysis and reporting.
  • Proactively identify reporting needs and ensure the quality delivery of reports and dashboards.
  • Manage data on cloud infrastructure platforms such as Google Cloud and AWS.
  • Ensure data security and compliance within cloud environments.
  • Manage relationships with leadership and external partners to align data initiatives with business goals.
  • Identify and solve analytical challenges proactively.
  • Translate data into meaningful insights and communicate them effectively to stakeholders.
  • Utilize Google Big Query for querying, transforming, and managing large datasets.

 

Required Skills and Expertise

  • Data Analytics & Visualization:  Expertise with Power BI and other data reporting systems.
  • SQL & Database Management: Advanced knowledge of SQL and relational database management.
  • Cloud Platform Management: Familiarity with Google Cloud and AWS for data management.
  • Data Governance & Security: Experience in ensuring data security and compliance in cloud environments.
  • Strategic Thinking & Business Insight: Strong understanding of business unit needs and how data insights support decision-making.
  • Communication & Presentation Skills: Ability to effectively communicate data insights to stakeholders.
  • Google Big Query: Experience in querying, transforming, and managing large datasets in Big Query.
  • ETL Processes & Data Integration: Proficiency in building and maintaining ETL pipelines using tools such as:
    • Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
    • Apache Airflow & Apache Spark
    • Talend
    • Integrate.io
    • Google Datastream
    • Hevo
    • Google Cloud Data Fusion
    • Fivetran
    • Data Transformation & Cleaning: Strong skills in preparing data for analytics using:
    • SQL
    • Python
    • Alteryx
    • Databricks

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • BSc Computer Science / B.tech in IT / Data scientist / Analytics (statistics)
  • 2- 3 years’ Proven experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role, in the pharmaceutical industry
  • SQL experience and knowledge
  • Google Cloud certified
  • Knowledge of Excel and PowerBI / Power Query
  • Microsoft Power Automation knowledge
  • SAP knowledge
  • AI Machine learning
