The Research Project Leader (PL) leads research projects from early formation of the project idea to Candidate selection within the framework and aligned with the TA strategy.
The PL provides scientific and Drug Discovery expertise to the TA, in support of project ideas as well as existing projects in the TA portfolio.
Main Responsibilities :
• Lead research projects from the early formation of the project idea to candidate selection.
• Define and deliver the research project plan, actively directing the project to achieve milestones.
• Manage key project risks that may cause deviations from the Research Project Plan (e.g., timeline, budget, and quality), leveraging cross-functional input as required, and escalate issues to line and functional management or governance bodies when appropriate.
• Assume leadership of the core team and serve as the dotted line manager of the core team members.
• React promptly in case of unforeseen events to propose an impact analysis and, if applicable, a modified plan and scenarios.
• If applicable, represent Servier in partnered projects as per the Alliance contract (chair/lead of the joint core team or joint development committee, for example), and ensure, with the Alliance Manager, contract compliance. The Research Project Leader could represent the project to the Alliance's governance bodies. The Research Project Leader leads the activities assigned to Servier and is accountable for timelines, quality, and ensures transparent alliance discussions and information sharing with the partner together with the Alliance Manager.
• Provide both scientific and strategic challenges to the core team members and functions to ensure that the functional recommendations lead to the highest value for the project.
• Ensure alignment of functions (R&D and outside R&D) and request PCGs when needed.
• Boost collective intelligence within the core team to identify various strategic scenarios.
• Provide high-level updates to governance bodies to enable corporate decision-making and act as the voice of the core team at governance meetings.
• Accountable for objective, well balanced and clear Core Team decision-making. After leveraging cross-functional input as required, take the final decision within the Core Team.
• Collaborate with the project manager to define work packages, expected timelines, budget, and quality.
• Work collaboratively with the core team and ensure transparent, simple, and complete information sharing between core team members and project members.
• Author and/or review scientific, regulatory, or communication documents as required.
• Contribute to project updates and progress reports and hold accountability for their quality and reliability.
• Ensure proactive reporting to the line manager (and to the NeuroTA LT, if appropriate) focusing on risk identification and mitigation, changes in value, alternative scenarios, and challenges with support functions.
• Work with function managers to identify the expertise required to execute the project at the core team level.
• Lead the definition of yearly common project objectives to be included in all core team members' YDR and hold accountability for their evaluation.
• Responsible for one or several projects
• Contribute to transversal knowledge across projects in the TA portfolio to maximise synergy as needed.
• Contribute to external evaluation (potentially including Due Diligence) if applicable
• Contribute to new target evaluation and proposal
• Take leadership/management of external partnerships that might be project transversal, e.g. PPP activities
Profile :
• PhD or MD/PhD in neuroscience or related field, with at least 4 years of postdoctoral experience
• Experience of leading drug discovery projects from Biotech or pharmaceutical industry desired
• Experience in working with and leading interdisciplinary teams
• Good scientific knowledge of relevant targets, mechanisms, model systems, and translational aspects in rare neurodegenerative or neurodevelopmental diseases
• Knowledge of clinical approaches in such diseases is a plus.
