Role Summary

 

The Sr Manager, Medical Program Management, reporting directly to the Senior Director Medical Operations, will partner with functional leads to develop high quality, integrated, cross-functional plans that drive Medical strategy. This role will be responsible for ensuring Medical Affairs initiatives stay on timelines, within budget, and produce desired results.  This role will manage strategic, financial, and operational planning, and preparing materials to Medical Leadership team.

 

The Sr Manager will support the organization through project management, including contracting and vendor oversight for Medical Affairs. Additionally, the role involves supporting internal and external benchmarking by reporting on metrics, collecting and analyzing data from across Medical Affairs functional areas, and acting as a central manager of the Medical Affairs centralized repository. The Program Manager plays a crucial role in optimizing business processes and driving continuous improvements within the Medical Affairs Department.

 

Primary Responsibilities

 

Operational Efficiency & Project Management

      Prepare detailed project schedules, identifying major milestones to oversee, control, communicate, and manage all activities required to identified projects

  • Monitor projects to ensure timely delivery of all milestones, resolve issues or escalate them appropriately, identify risk mitigation plans, and deliver project status updates to team members while managing expectations
  • Proactively suggest improvements to existing processes and think creatively to promote innovative ideas that will benefit the team and our overall efforts
  • Organize, set agenda for, and lead meetings with internal teams to facilitate project completion

 

Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate involvement of appropriate functions and individuals in relevant communications, decisions and working groups
  • Work closely with internal teams such as Field Medical, Medical Directors, PV, HEOR and Sci Comms & Pubs to ensure program alignment and seamless execution.

 

Data & Reporting

  • Collect, analyze, and present key performance metrics related to Medical Affairs programs, ensuring Medical Affairs leadership has accurate data for decision-making.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for ongoing medical affairs projects, summarizing the progress and outcomes of medical programs

 

Budget and Resource Management

  • Work closely with Medical Affairs leadership to ensure functional budgets are managed effectively.
  • Monitor financial aspects of projects, ensuring that all activities are executed within budget and resources are allocated appropriately.
  • Support company financial goals and objectives by supporting forecasting processes, assuring timely invoicing of project milestones, and supporting finance department in resolving disputes
  • Act as central point of contact within Medical Affairs for support with contracting and operational vendor management

 

 

Education and Required Skills

 

  • Bachelor's degree in scientific field, or life science
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required
  • 5+ years relative experience managing projects in pharmaceutical or biotech company, preferably within Medical Affairs  
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, including MS Project or similar project management software is essential
  • Strong problem-solving and process management skills.
  • Ability to balance business needs, compliance/regulatory requirements, IT system requirements, detailed business process requirements, timelines and budgets to successfully deliver value added solutions.
  • Demonstrated Business Process Optimization skills with a demonstrated track record of improving operational performance.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, organizational agility and political savvy that result in an ability to work cross functionally and lead matrix teams

 

Travel and Location

  • Estimate the amount of travel required: 10%.
  • Boston based preferred but remote permitted
