Role Summary
The Director of Medical Information will lead and supervise a core function that provides accurate, unbiased, balanced, and timely responses to unsolicited medical inquiries regarding our marketed products and those in development. This role will be accountable for the scientific/medical accuracy of any Medical Information content.
This strategic role will drive the development and implementation of initiatives that enhance the role and influence of the Medical Information team within the enterprise. This position will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with broader organizational goals and provide expert medical insights to inform enterprise-wide decisions.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Medical Information team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure the team actively contributes to the medical strategy and is viewed as an essential member in adding to the Annual Medical Plan and Strategic Imperatives.
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives to enhance the role and influence of the Medical Information team within the enterprise.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure medical information strategies align with broader organizational goals.
- Influence enterprise-wide decisions by providing expert medical insights and data-driven recommendations.
- Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes to proactively adapt medical information strategies and maintain compliance.
- Oversee the Medical Information Call Center, ensuring proper training and accurate dissemination of medical information to HCPs and consumers.
- Oversee the writing and quality of response documents for the call center, facilitating the review/approval process and maintenance.
- Maintain expertise with company products, relevant disease states, pipeline products, and competitive products.
- Liase with Global Medical Information regularly to support alignment with product SRLs.
- Analyze, interpret, and summarize medical literature for findings with clinical and strategic relevance.
- Oversee, create, or improve processes and working practices for medical information activities, driving operational excellence.
- Oversee and monitor the Medical Information portal, continually seeking ways to enhance its capabilities and user experience.
- Manage medical inquiry insights reporting with consistent visualization of trends and metrics to inform strategic decisions.
- Drive innovative ideas to capitalize on Medical Communications digital capabilities, enhancing the reach and impact of medical information.
- Embrace the use of Generative AI and emerging technologies to drive efficiency and innovation in medical information processes.
- Support product launch, lifecycle, and pipeline activities, providing strategic medical insights and information.
Education and Required Skills
- Advanced Degree (PharmD, MD or PhD) with 8+ years in the pharmaceutical industry, including 5+ years with a focus in Medical Information.
- Oncology experience preferred
- Proven experience in leading and growing team of medical information professionals and developing medical content.
- Experience in integrating consistent medical information processes across therapeutic areas through matrix management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific information clearly and concisely.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and synthesize scientific data.
- Strong interpersonal skills particularly in motivation, negotiation, listening, and judgment
