Director, Corporate Strategy

Role Summary

The Director, US Corporate Strategy is a key member of the Corporate Strategy and Development (CSDO) team. The CDSO is comprised of corporate and pipeline strategy, development (business development and alliance management) and operations (PMO office, business excellence). This position offers a candidate the opportunity to help lead the overall US company strategy while also designing and executing on cross-functional strategic initiatives that are critical to the company’s success.

 

The CS Director will be responsible for owning and supporting major projects and workstreams that are a priority for Servier Pharmaceuticals. Work includes problem solving leadership, developing subject matter expertise, and addressing critical business challenges. The Director will manage direct reports or consultant resources and be expected to exhibit strengths in abilities to work cross-functionally, work under ambiguous conditions, prepare and deliver executive presentations, conduct analyses, and motivate.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

  1. Strategic Planning & Deliverables
  • Manage and improve upon the Servier Pharmaceuticals strategic planning cycle which includes an annual business review and long-range plan, as well as facilitating functional plans and representing the US in key global strategic deliverables
  • Engage internal subject matter experts based on knowledge of where gaps are and required information to develop content for strategic deliverables.
  • Own and optimize the US strategic planning cycle, calendar, and project plan. Ensure alignment with global sequence: e.g., assess the right cadence of events, optimal alignment with forecasting and other functional milestones
  1. Strategic Support of Financial Planning
  • Manage on-time and connected forecasts and financial plans (consolidating inputs from finance, forecasting, and market access to assess the full portfolio, identify gaps, and work with the team to refine
  • Act as a neutral party at the center of the organization to pressure test topline and budget forecasts, ensuring that financials align to strategy
  • Interpret business performance results in the context of strategy and cross-functional implications
  • Lead executive-level presentation creation of forecasts and financial planning, distilling detailed and robust analysis into simple and digestible presentations
    • Work with cross-functional partners to ensure presentations anticipate questions and include sensitivities, comparisons to prior forecasts, driver analysis, and connection to strategy/tactics
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, socialize, and follow through on execution
  • Generate opportunity assessments and business cases on key projects (e.g., ROI, NPV, breakeven, analyses)

 

 

 

  1. Strategic Projects
  • Lead and support other CSDO team members in strategic projects that are considered highest priority from the US Leadership Team.
  • Own project scoping, framing, analysis, decision enablement, and set up of execution/ongoing operations before handing off to PMO or functional partners
  • Develop project recommendations through data insights, facilitation of strategic workshops and stakeholder meetings,
  • Identify, scope, and ideate on business transformation opportunities
  • Maintain project plans, timelines, facilitate team meetings, and support risk mitigation

 

  1. Support CDSO Team Success
  • Contribute to success of the team by supporting team offsites, events, developing and tracking annual team goals and budgets
  • Support identification of opportunities for improved team effectiveness and collaboration, being an active contributor to the collaborative and transparent team culture.

 

 

Education and Required Skills:

 

  • Undergraduate degree with business, science, or quantitative focus
    • Graduate degree (MBA, PhD, or similar) a plus
  • 8+ years of work experience in a professional capacity, ideally in a consulting role or similar strategic role in the life sciences industry
    • General understanding of drug development, regulatory processes and milestones, and commercial, medical, and market access dynamics preferred
    • Understanding of oncology or rare disease markets and stakeholder perspectives with a proven ability to quickly gain in-depth understanding of various disease states preferred
  • Proficient with MS Office tools – particularly PowerPoint and Excel
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with comfort preparing research and data analysis to support business recommendations
  • Experience in developing and delivering client presentations/communications; Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Outstanding track record of success in past professional and academic endeavours
  • Experience in developing interpersonal relationships, influencing, and gaining consensus across multiple functions (high EQ)
  • Professional and confident with an ability to work with all levels of the organization, especially senior level leaders.

Other Relevant Information:

 

  • Boston-area/hybrid onsite
  • Travel ~5-10% of the time for meetings/workshops with Global (Paris), external conferences, and internal meetings/off-sites
