Role Summary

 

The Associate Director, US Portfolio Performance & Strategy reports into Sr. Director of In-line Portfolio Performance and Strategy within CBO team.  US CBO oversees corporate and pipeline strategy, development (business development and alliance management) and operations (PMO office, business excellence and shared operations) among other responsibilities.

 

The Associate Director, US Portfolio Performance & Strategy will be responsible for ensuring that US is best positioned to deliver on its strategy and business priorities for marketed products. This person will lead collaboratively through influence and direct, as appropriate, cross-functional project teams and be a trusted advisor/leader to the working group leaders, Inline Chair, and CBO team. The AD is responsible for owning and supporting major Inline committee workstream deliverables and ensure the recommendations to Inline Committee are strategic, clear and actionable

 

Inline Committee mandate is as follows:

    • In-Line elevates key subject matter experts to be directly involved in and accountable for business performance and strategic deliverables

    • In-Line encourages functional SMEs to share insights and work collaboratively to assess business challenges and pressure test strategy

    • In-Line reduces LT time-strain and involvement in day to day processes by ensuring only comprehensive and cross functionally vetted deliverables are passed through for review
  • Enhancing our Deliverables
    • In-Line will enhance deliverables through greater cross functional collaboration and new accountability measures

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support Senior Director who sets strategic direction of Inline Committee eg.
  • Sets the governance for all in scope deliverables - empowered to approve deliverables for elevation to leadership or request further iteration
  • Sets In-Line meetings, agenda, and required attendance
  • Validates in-scope deliverables and timelines for the Inline Committee
  • Sets and prioritizes deliverable (e.g., mitigation plans) for the working groups supporting the Inline Committee. Ensures appropriate templates and guidance inline to bring team members along to succeed; acts advisors to working groups
 
  • Deliver performance of the Working Teams with executive presentations for inline leadership
    • Ensure deliverables are at the highest quality ahead of strategic planning cycle which includes an integrated cross functional plan, financial deliverables for annual business review and long-range plan. 
    • Engage internal subject matter experts based on knowledge of where gaps are and required information to develop content for strategic deliverables.
    • Synthesize recommendations from the working groups for US leadership.
    • Manage information flow and ensure appropriate executive communications
      among the matrixed and cross-functional organization, this includes concise
      and timely updates to the CBO, US LT including the CEO.

 

  • Support enablement of a strong culture of empowerment, accountability, teamwork and mutual trust and respect for Inline team members. Coordinate with Emerging Portfolio Leader to share learnings and raise the bar for the group and organization.

 

  • CDSO Team Success
  • Contribute to success of the CSDO team by sharing best practices with other CSDO members and support team offsites, events, developing and tracking annual team goals and budgets
  • Support identification of opportunities for improved team effectiveness and collaboration, being an active contributor to the collaborative and transparent team culture.

Education and Required Skills:

  • Undergraduate degree with business, science, or quantitative focus
    • Graduate degree (MBA, PhD, or similar) a plus
  • 8+ years of work experience in a professional capacity, ideally in strategy consulting and pharma  operations to be able to pressure test and synthesize the deliverables to senior management
    • Understanding of oncology or rare disease markets and stakeholder perspectives with a proven ability to quickly gain in-depth understanding of various disease states preferred
    • Functional experience a plus
  • Strong organizational, managerial and leadership skills (including influence without formal authority)
  • Excellent social competencies, ability to work in highly matrixed organizations effectively
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering client presentations/communications; exceptional written and oral communication skills especially in story telling
  • Strong ability to establish a culture of excellence and motivating groups
  • Ability to work under pressure in fast paced environment and adaptability
  • Experience in developing interpersonal relationships, influencing, and gaining consensus across multiple functions (high EQ)
  • Professional and confident with an ability to work with all levels of the organization, especially senior level leaders.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with comfort preparing research and data analysis to support business recommendations

Other Relevant Information:

  • Boston-area onsite, 2-3 days in the office
  • Travel ~10% of the time for meetings/workshops with Global (Paris), external conferences, and internal meetings/off-sites
