Role Summary
The Associate Director, Operations Project Management position is within the External Manufacturing organization, which is comprised of Biologics/Pharmaceutical Operations, Quality, MSAT, Procurement, and Supply Chain. This leadership role will oversee a team of Operations Project Managers whose primary responsibilities entail providing day-to-day Operations Project Management to the Virtual Plant Team (VPT) which provides oversight to contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs). The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading and developing high-performing teams, possess strong project management skills, and have experience working with cross-functional, cross-company, global teams.
Primary Responsibilities
- Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a dynamic team of Operations Project Managers, fostering a culture of collaboration, inclusion, innovation, and high performance.
- Set clear expectations, providing direction, and ensuring the team is motivated to achieve their best work.
- Ensure the team’s activities and projects are aligned with the overall company goals and objectives. This involves strategic planning, resource allocation, and ensuring that project deliverables meet quality standards and deadlines.
- Operations Project Management
Oversee a team of Operations Projects Managers, whose primary responsibilities include:

- Day-to-day operations support to the VPT ensuring appropriate oversight to one or more CMOs.
- Utilizing and creating standard work processes and tools for all aspects of operations project management, including but not limited to:
- Meeting agendas, minutes, and action items
- Visual dashboards related to performance, risks, project status, etc.
- Creation and management of all required project plans (e.g. schedule, communication, stakeholder, risk identification/management, escalation, etc.)
- Planning, Execution, Monitoring, Controlling, and Closing of priority projects
- Monthly, Quarterly, and Yearly reporting
- VPT roadmap, VPT snapshot, batch tracker, exceptions and actions tracker, Operations Review Meeting (ORM) scheduling and preparation activities.

- Project manager for priority projects supporting the VPT (e.g.VPT specific scope related to tech transfers, technical process improvements, product or market launches, business process improvements, etc).
- Plan and execute projects/tasks as needed in alignment with Industry Business Excellence and External Manufacturing Business Excellence.
- Support ad-hoc activities/initiatives as needed for cross-functional ExM Organization.
- Performance Management:
- Oversee and support the analysis and reporting of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) using established processes and performance dashboards.
- Oversee and support the development and implementation of performance improvement plans, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and strategic goals.
- Facilitate regular performance reviews and progress assessments, identifying areas for enhancement, driving continuous improvement initiatives and optimizing outcomes.
- Risk Management

- Oversee team member activities related to data collection, reporting, and the development of mitigation strategies for raw material and CMO risk assessments.
- Regularly monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of mitigation strategies, providing guidance for making revisions, as necessary.
- Crisis Management
- Oversee team member activities related to managing disruptive and unexpected events and the associated development and execution of a crisis management plan.
- Drive continuous improvement by analyzing the crisis and the response, identifying lessons learned, and implementing strategies to enhance future crisis management efforts.
- Operational Excellence
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence. Identify opportunities for process enhancements and drive initiatives to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices in Project Management and External Manufacturing.
- Embrace change, seek feedback, actively problem solve, leverage lessons learned, and regularly reflect on performance.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with Industry PMO, building and maintaining strong relationships.
Education and Required Skills
Skills and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field required
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in project management
- People management experience required
- Project Management certification or equivalent course work
- Expertise in project management methodologies, software/tools, and best practices
- Experience with data analytics and metrics reporting software/tools
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and work effectively under pressure
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Experience leading/working within cross-functional, cross-company, global teams
- Experience in a regulated industry (Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical, FMCG)

- Position is Boston or US based remote
- Approximately 10% domestic and international travel required is required to meet the needs of the business

Salary Range
The salary range for this role is $170,000 - $200,000. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. Employees in this position are also eligible for Short-Term and Long-Term incentive programs.
