Role Summary
The Associate Director, Medical Program Management, reporting directly to the Senior Director, Medical Operations, serves as a strategic operational leader and partner to functional leads to develop high-quality, integrated, cross-functional plans that drive medical strategy. This role is responsible for ensuring Medical Affairs initiatives deliver maximum business value and long-term impact by moving beyond project tracking to focus on strategic alignment and benefit realization across the Oncology (Solid Tumors and Hematologic Malignancies) and Neurology portfolios. The Associate Director manages a broad and evolving scope, identifying cross-project dependencies, and mitigating systemic risks to ensure all programs maintain a strategic fit within a dynamic market. This leader will manage strategic, financial, and operational planning, providing critical insights to the Medical Leadership Team through matrix influence and direct people leadership.
Primary Responsibilities
- Strategic Alignment & Value: Lead the design of integrated Annual Medical Plans, ensuring every initiative is mapped to core business value and long-term strategic objectives
- Benefit Realization: Establish frameworks to measure the long-term impact of medical programs, ensuring that project outcomes translate into tangible benefits for the organization and patients
- Dependency & Risk Management: Oversee the medical portfolio to identify and manage cross-project dependencies and systemic risks, ensuring resource optimization across therapeutic areas
- Change Leadership: Proactively manage organizational and programmatic change, ensuring the Medical Affairs team remains agile and aligned with evolving corporate strategies
- Governance & Oversight: Develop and maintain governance for medical asset teams to ensure accountability, streamlined decision-making, and cross-functional transparency
- Financial Stewardship: Oversee the annual Medical Affairs budgeting process, managing quarterly forecasting and ensuring financial decisions support strategic fit
- Matrix & Future People Leadership: Lead high-performing cross-functional teams (Medical Strategy, Field Medical, PV, HEOR, Sci Comms/Pubs, Medical Operations and Patient Affairs) through influence, with the expectation of assuming direct people management as the function grows
- Operational Excellence: Champion continuous innovation by implementing digital tools (e.g., Veeva, project dashboards) and optimizing business processes to enhance systemic efficiency

Candidate Profile
Education and Required Skills
- Advanced degree preferred (PharmD, PhD, MBA, or MS in Life Sciences)
- Minimum of 8-10+ years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical/biotech project management or medical affairs operations
- Expert proficiency in MS Project, Veeva Medical, and budget management tools
- Project Management Professional (PMP) training or certification highly desired
- Proven track record in Oncology (Solid Tumors/Hemato-Malignancies) and/or Neurology
- Deep understanding of GxP, PhRMA Code, and global medical compliance standards
Travel and Location
- Travel ~15%
- Boston-based (hybrid) preferred.

Salary Range
The salary range for this role is $176-$200k. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. Employees in this position are also eligible for Short-Term and Long-Term incentive programs.
